Today is Halloween, and its raining – non stop. Now I don’t celebrate this holiday – we celebrate Purim. Their meanings are very different – but they both have costumes and loads of candy. The candy that comes in the door and gets eaten by mommy, daddy or both. Some kids have buckets and buckets of candy. I’m the mom that doesn’t do that – I give out a toy (please don’t teepee my house😂). On Purim it’s traditional to give out gifts of food, so I give out one healthy thing and one treat (that I guarantee you is healthy and has no food coloring).
Heres the thing peeps – you are the most important person to yourself.
Did you know that?
Yes, you are! There’s a reason that you have to give yourself the oxygen first incase of any issues on the plane (Gd forbid). While I’ve never been in that situation, and hope to never be, the truth is if I don’t take care of myself first (not in an all consuming selfish way), then I can’t help the people that I love the most and want to take care of. When I take of my family (or fill in the blank who you take care of), I give them everything inside of me. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for them. If I need a moment or two for alone time, or getting pampered (which is my thing), then its ok. Sometimes others can try to make me feel guilty – but everyone needs this. Was it selfish of me to put my health first? Which led me to dropping 45 lbs and being a much better mom and wife. Was it selfish of me to start my health coaching practice? Where I can work from home and therefore am so much more available to my family because I have no physical spacial commitments. NO!
Are there times I need to say no – of course! It wouldn’t be healthy if I said yes all the time. If I go shopping and buy my daughter every toy she wants – that wouldn’t be ok. But by me saying yes to me – I made more room to say yes to my loved ones more often.
So on todays agenda – I encourage to get find healthy meal options
Make yourself a yummy and simple lunch idea:
Pre cut salad and a can of tuna with a light dressing
mozzarella sticks and some cucumbers
leftover dinner from the night before
Eggs – so yummy and good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xt6XFqIxEto&list=UUmTBjg-3dcmOt0cBV3k0ROg&index=3
Then – fill in with healthy snacks during the day.
And lastly make a easy peasy dinner before you go out trick or treating! Pick something your kids like to eat!
Dinner ideas:
Meatballs and spaghetti
Roast chicken from the store with broccoli
Crock pot chili – especially in this rain.
Most of all have fun!!
Happy and Healthy
