Zelda in Italy

For years Asaf (my husband) and I spoke about going to Europe. One day Asaf called me up and said let’s go! So I called a travel agent and we booked a four-day trip.

When I say it was just like that – I’m not kidding. We booked on a Wednesday and got on a flight on Monday.

Which is so us!

Asaf is not a fan of traveling and doesn’t enjoy planning out a trip or building up to it. It just stresses him out vs me who loves to plan and shop and research.

So… I hastily did some research and booked an Airbnb and hotel stay. It was an amazing trip, but definitely, a little more research would have saved us so much time.

Italy was gorgeous!

We landed in Milan and used the subway

We landed in Milan on Monday, used the subway system – which was surprisingly not so difficult to figure out.

Plus, we asked and people were super helpful – to get to our Airbnb. We are Jewish and keep kosher. Generally speaking, when we travel I take food. The nice thing about Italy, a lot of the cities have kosher restaurants- and that was part of my research (the important stuff lol).

We walked about 8 miles around Milan that day. It was amazing. We saw the city, the cobbled streets, the history,

We checked out ‎⁨Castello Sforzesco⁩, ⁨Milan⁩. I love history, so I read every sign to just absorb it. We walked around and checked out all these little shops on little streets. Not the typical touristy thing but we loved it. We went out for dinner that night in a nice Italian restaurant but didn’t have pasta. However, we did have the fish and wine. Ever since Asaf changed his appreciation for a nice glass of wine at night, from not drinking ever.

The next day we drove to Lugano – which is in Switzerland but it’s referred to as the Italian part of Switzerland because it’s so close and people go back and forth.

the roads were so narrow and they drive fast!

We tried to do a hike up one of the trails we found, and we got pretty far, but the mountain goats got even further. It was so breathtaking to be there and just look down and see the water, the villages, etc. We then hiked back down and drove further up…. umm.. that was scary.

The roads are so narrow and the people drive so fast! You’d think there was more room on the road!! For me, going there and seeing all the history was like my books and my favorite subject coming alive. And of course hiking with the cows…. I mean who would want to miss that.

On Wednesday, we got up early and drove down to Florence. This was really the only part that had we planned it better, we would have flown home from Florence instead of turning around and doing 6 hours of driving in one day.

I wish I could share how breathtaking and serene the Italian countryside is. Especially when you are driving in a little car that shakes every time a bigger car passes. But jokes aside, you see farms and ruins, and it just feels amazing.

we can't wait to go back!

It’s like being transported. The language has such a flow and tilt to it. The people we met were so warm and friendly.

We walked for hours thru the marketplace and went to see an old Italian Synagogue. The synagogue was old-world beauty and I wish we were there for the weekend so we could see it being used for a Shabbat service.

Right next door is a delightful little classic Italian Kosher restaurant. We sat and enjoyed a fresh plate of lasagna. I don’t think I ever tasted better.

We face-timed with Leah (our daughter) while there, and she said that next time we need to take her. She was not happy not being included.

While we drove back to Milan, we spoke about when we would go back again….
We treated ourselves to an incredible hotel in Milan! 5 stars doesn’t cover it. It was sumptuous.
Got up in the am – returned the car and went to the airport. Where I didn’t know the airline wasn’t serving food – and we basically didn’t eat until we landed in NY 14 hours later. I think we ate some granola bars. I was grumpy lol

But legit we cant wait to go back and take Leah, it was the best experience!!
