Cold Spring Hike

When we moved from Long Island to Rockland County, NY, one of our goals was to be able to hike more. We loved the beach and I still really miss it.

Occasionally, someone will mention how we have a beach here too. I look at them in legit confusion because the only beach here is a lake- Lake Welch, which is beautiful. But not a beach.

Spring through Fall we try and hike a couple of times a week. Usually on a Friday or Sunday. One day Asaf tells me about this hike that’s really nice, kind of rock climbing, but no big deal.

I said sure…
We go without hiking gear, just basic sneakers, and a little Maltipoo.

See, what I didn’t know was that this hike was crazy, intense, and basically one of the hardest hikes in our area!

It’s about 40 min from our house.

From very early on, I realized how difficult it was, but my stubborn side kicked in and I didn’t want to quit.

There were parts that there was nothing to hold onto and parts that weren’t clearly marked.

We met another couple that was hiking and had so much fun hiking with them. They were shocked that without all the gear we were doing just fine. Not only were we ok, but Olaf (our Maltipoo) was like a mountain goat.  People were shocked at how easily he climbed up.

And you know what I realized – he could because no one was telling him no. He never stopped, he just kept going up and looking for the way to go.

He got stuck a few times, and a few times he directed us to a way that was slightly easier.

He actually gave me the energy to not give up – and there was no way I was going down the way we came up!

Heads up if you are heading there – it’s steep going up, not so bad going down, but we had a hard time following the markers going down and ended up on a different trail.

Not sure how but at least we made it to the car.
