I have a confession to make..
I want to do all these grandiose projects in my house but I am scared of the power saw. I mean the thing is a monster! It’s scary.
So I hired someone to help me with some of the projects that I had overwhelmed myself starting. The big one is the new library/ office renovation (See that project here!)
As Ever (that’s the handyman’s name) was painting and starting to help me build the bookshelves, I finally got over the fear.
Now I'm looking for reasons to use the saw every day!
In the old office space is a 2 ft wide basic Target bookcase that I no longer needed. And since we don’t know yet what or if or when we’ll do renovations in the house, I figured Leah’s closet needed help.
I saw a Mom post a Tiktok of putting her kids’ clothes in buckets vs drawers and decided to create my own version, mostly using stuff in the house.
So first I removed everything and made a much bigger mess. .
Then I had to pry off the wood that was holding up the one shelf in the closet.
I spackled all the holes and let them dry. I really like using this product because it’s easy and dries too fast. I got mine at home depot, but many other stores carry it or you can find it on Amazon.
Next step was sanding the walls and vacuuming the floor.
I measured & used a level to reattach the rod
I attempted to find the studs (but I’m not 100% sure that I did so I put in more screws- don’t judge – it worked) and attached the bookshelf onto the wall.
I chose that spot – because it was easier for Leah to reach and see her things and I wouldn’t have to get a new clothing rod.
I measured and used a level to reattach the rod. I added brackets that I already had in the house to reattach the single shelf that spans the width of the closet – and Leah loves how her ceramics are displayed.
My Favorite Part
Next up is my favorite part – Using shelves from a different bookcase that broke (but I was able to keep the shelves), I cut them to fit and used shelf brackets that I had found from organizing the garage (to read about the Garage Project, click Here)
The only products I bought are the blue baskets that I found at the Dollar Tree.
I walked in there unsure of what I would find, the 7 of them were on the floor waiting for me. There were no others.
The best part is – I removed two pieces of furniture from her room! One dresser and one nightstand. Now she has a desk and a bed. Maybe we will paint her room this summer!
Leah’s reaction… She looked at her closet and said its magical!
So big win there!
Let's see how long it stays clean for!
