Leah’s Desk Makeover… or Not

This is not the usual DIY blog post – where the author writes up a whole post with instructions on how to do something super cool in the easiest or most complicated way.

Nope

This is usually how many of my projects go….

Our daughter went to overnight camp for a week and we decided to redo her room as a surprise for when she got back….

It needed a refresh.

And so did this beautiful desk that was my mom’s and Aunts. It’s pretty cool to have furniture in the house that tells a story.

I was super excited for this project.

I bought the paint stripper, sanding paper, a super cool paint and spray paint for the hardware.

My first realization that something was wrong...

My first realization that something was wrong – was that the paint stripper didn’t remove anything from the top.
No worries.

While I figure out the top, I will sand the drawers. And they sanded down to a gorgeous wood.

Which left me encouraged to keep going.

I posted on Facebook looking for ideas, found out the top is laminate and decided to try to sand it down. It takes a ton of time.

Only to then discover that the side was MDF and not wood!!
Which left me very discouraged.
So, for now this project will go the way of many projects and be left untouched and unfinished.
What I may eventually do is replace a lot of it – but…. I have to decide if its worth it just for the nostalgia….
