So we moved into our new home in August. When we moved – although I was super organized being that this was my 4th move in 10 years – it still requires more.

Our home is bigger and has more spaces. So I decided that I want to tackle some of the fixer upper projects around the house. By myself.
I decided to start with my office because its the room I spend the most amount of time in everyday and I couldn’t stand looking at the colors. The room was painted a very vibrant red and had a gold chandelier – because this house was built in the 90’s and that was common for many dining rooms. Red is supposed to stimulate the appetite – but I dont need any help with that!
I started working on my goals and needs for the room. I needed a desk that didnt require me to clear it off daily or even weekly so this way I could keep my papers where I need them – and printer. I wanted a room where all the books could go. We are avid readers because I love to read. In the library room we have 3 bookcases full, we have a reading nook full of kids book and in my bedroom I dedicated an entire closet just for books.
So I started with removing all the books and putting them in the garage. I wanted to be super organized so that the house wouldn’t feel like a dumpster just in case the project took longer. I then removed all the art and shades. (I did mention we had completely unpacked and put art up already). Next I had to fill in all the holes left by the previous owner and the new ones created by me. And lastly I had to tape off all the moldings – and that took forever.
Finally I got to try out my new paint sprayer – I dont know if I wasn’t using it right or I had bought a not good product – but the paint was coming out so clumpy (even after thinning it) that I reverted to a roller. I guess sometimes dont break what aint broke (shrug). Then I started with applying the top half of the room with such a pretty light blue color and had two coats. and Then applied the bottom half with a darker blue/grey color.
At this point I cant move my arms. I am so sore. Ouch. But its time to now pick out which fan I want, assemble it and install it. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It really goes with the ambience of the room
I bought a butcher blck bar that was stained grey from Home Depot, cabinets and legs from ikea, and assembled them. It worked out better for me than buying a desk because I got what I wanted. Check out my post about building my desk here.
To finish it off I spray painted the baseboards, replaced all the outlet covers with white one, caulked the molding, hired someone to install the molding for the middle of the room, cleaned the windows and put the shades back up.
I love how this room turned out. Im sitting here right now and feel so at ease and relaxed but still motivated to work – so this worked out beautifully.
